I started practicing Bikram yoga in 2008 after chancing upon a magazine advertisement. My notion of yoga being slow and meditative was completely overturned after my first class. The adrenaline I felt in class was similar to that of running and after 90mins of 26 postures repeated twice, I was exhausted. I had an excellent total body workout that was cardiovascular, involving conditioning of the muscles and improving the flexibility of the joints. After one year of practicing, I enrolled myself in Bikram’s Teachers’ Training in Los Angeles, Palm spring for 9 weeks of full-time immersion course. I taught and practiced Bikram Yoga for 5 years and moved on to teaching a mixture of Hatha classes after obtaining Hatha certification of 200Hrs with Master Saumik at Real Yoga in 2014.
Yoga to me is a form of exercise and being on the mat is a time where I devote the practice to my body which is the temple of my soul and a time I can clear my mind of stress and negative thoughts to focus on myself. Yoga has created better self-awareness and is an integral part of my life.
